If Wise's ultimate goal is to rally public support for legal rights for non-human animals, his extreme argument may in fact undermine a much stronger argument that he could be making: that humane scientific research on animal intelligence and behaviour should inform and exert a greater influence on legal and scientific policies regarding animal protection, welfare and conservation.....
